"Not enough room to dance,' cry the swingsters, but the fact is Swing 46 is a throwback to the 'Dining! Dancing! Cocktails!' days of old New York, and that's enough reason for us to head over there a half dozen times a year. Arrive before nine, and you should be able to snag one of the few ringside cocktail tables (dinner not required), or you can get a table by springing for the American Menu dinner. Though easy to call the food 'mediocre', let's just say it's probably on par with what The Stork was serving back in the day: roasted chicken, asparagus, steak. Given the setting and the show, sometimes there's nothing wrong with that.
A free dance lesson is offered before showtime, and yes, there's enough room for a romantic glide across the floor. Regular acts include George Gee and the Make Believe Ballroom Orchestra and the Big Band Harlem Renaissance Orchestra. A great night out.
