Jonathan Kanarek, an open minded entrepreneur who is looking to change the tide by brining menswear back to men, invited The Cad to the grand opening of his new shop Everything's Jake on Hollywood Boulevard in order to show us what ammunition he can throw at the crowds of men filling Los Angeles streets in jeans and undershirts. Available: hand painted ties that end at your belt, socks made of silk, cuff links that snap together, suits woven in dense fabric textures that are contradictions to the Oswald Boateng aesthetic of a 70’s color palette. Everything's Jake is a breath of fresh air to a circle of men having a harder and harder time finding quality and taste in clothing. Yes, there are a plethora of women’s wear shops on these streets covering the bases for the gal looking for the 50s cocktail dress or a 40s business suit, yet men’s vintage has become sort of a bane on many vintage dealers that often regret carrying suits, collar bars, or shoes in their shops or to vintage expos because they tend to take up space and rarely get sold. With society's newfound interest in menswear and quality, the trend could soon change with Jakes shop being the spearhead carrying clothes that looked at home on style icons like Jerry Lewis, Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra.Centered around the modern era of menswear, this shop is unique with its hangout atmosphere where men can come in, peruse the goods and have a nice chat while paging through the newest and some classic books on clothing before picking up that one-of-a-kind silk cravat that gives the pop to one's outfit that has been missing (though there may be another one somewhere left in the world - it is a vintage shop after all). The grand opening party was a smash, bringing in some of Hollywood's most knowledgably clothed elite on the vintage scene from Anna Marie of Revamp Vintage to Fonzworth Bently of Outkast. Cocktails were served and connections were made as reporters snapped photos and took notes on the event and its participants.Jonathan Kanerek was chosen one of Esquire Magazine's Best Dressed Real Men in the World 2007 and he lived up to that title while maneuvering through the large crowd in his black jacket, light grey trousers, white shirt with spread collar, and grey and red striped tie. Subtle and not overbearing, he would have fit right into any classic Hollywood film. When you are in downtown LA or in Beverly Hills and you can’t find that one piece of clothing in the high-end shops that has the character from a day when quality and luxury went hand in hand, just remember there is a new shop in town owned by a man with a reputation for detail.Everything's Jake 4644 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90027 (323) 662-5253 ![]()
